In the scientific world, cinnamon is known by the name cinnamomum zeylanicum. This plant is most common in Southeast Asia, whose climate and topographical characteristics are the most suitable for the said plant. Many of the books in the Bible mentioned cinnamon as a prescribed plant to anoint the bodies of Israelites. It is no wonder why cinnamon is worth being featured in many articles as well being prescribed simply because of the various properties it exhibits which have been known since the ancient time by many people all throughout the world. In Egypt, cinnamon was used as ingredient in embalming mixtures. In China, it has been used as a medicine since four thousand years ago. In ancient Arabian world, cinnamon was in-demand due to its fragrant odor.

Aside from its capability to spice up food, there is much information backed by different researches about the healing wonders of cinnamon. Because of the cinnamaldehyde it contains, it is widely used in the Western world as a tranquilizer. The research conducted to mice by Chinese scientists revealed that cinnamon can relieve pain and stress, thereby very relaxing when taken in as a tea.

In other parts of Asia, cinnamon is a remedy for coughs and asthma. According to studies, asthma is caused by emotional upset, hence cinnamon’s calming effect can be a remedy for it.
In addition, cinnamon is also prescribed to treat typhoid fevers caused by salmonella. The study conducted to mice that were injected with salmonella that caused fever showed reduction of temperature after being given a dose of cinnamon.

Cinnamon also possesses antifungal, antiviral, bactericidal, and larvicidal activities. Hence, this plant is effective in getting rid of Escherichia coli, staphylococcus aureus, salmonella, flu virus, and echo virus that can definitely cause fatal diseases. Aside from these pathogens, cinnamon can prevent and treat sickness associated with digestion.
