tomatoDo you want to increase the amount of oxygen in your area everyday by cultivating plants at your spacious backyard? Or, perhaps you may want to look at a refreshing scenery of beautiful flowers near your home everyday.

If you say yes to these questions, let me suggest to you one plant that can definitely beautify your garden- peony plant. But before you order some pots of this plant, follow along to find out the important information about peony plants.
Peony plants are sometimes referred to as Chinese peony plants and are known in the scientific world as Paeonia lactiflora. There are two known types of peony plants known as herbaceous perennials and woody perennials.

Peony plants owe their popularity to their wonderful attributes. They are attractive plants with glossy green foliage capable of growing up to two to three inches. Their beautiful flowers are very fragrant, massive doubles, usually in colors pink, red or white. Peony usually blossoms during late spring or early summer. Aside from North America, peony plants are also widely cultivated in China, Europe, and Western U. S.

If you are interested now to cultivate peony plants, bear in mind some problems you may likely encounter. Botrytis and other diseases may likely occur to these plants. They must be planted individually not as group because over crowdedness will make the air less likely to circulate. Hence, 3-4 inches must be the measurement of the space between each peony plant.

Care for peony plants includes supporting the heavy flowers with stakes and hoops. To prevent botrytis blight and other disease, trimming and disposing foliage during autumn must be done. If you notice one peony plant being infected, it is better to uproot it before it can infect other peony plants. Mulching can also do well. Mulch peony plants in the fall but make sure to get rid of mulch on spring.

Planting peony plants is preferably done in summer. But to places where summer brings intense heat, the partial shade may not do well for newly planted peony plants. The most suitable soil is, of course, the most fertile and well-drained where the ph is within 6.0- 7.0.
Take the roots of peony if you plan to plant some of it during fall. As you plant, dig a hole and place the roots in it. Take extra caution for its buds. Make sure it is 2 inches under the surface after you plant it so that when it can achieve its full blossom during spring or early summer. During spring, planting potted peony is most suitable.

Planting peony plants, just like any plant, requires some measures which you have to observe in order to get the most of them. The planting requirements may not be easy and time-consuming if you are not accustomed to gardening tasks, but seeing your plants blossom during spring will definitely make all your efforts worth it.
